Ufa Drone Attack Prompts Russian Calls for Strikes on Ukrainian Decision Centers
After a drone attack on Ufa, Russian officials call for strikes on Ukrainian decision-making centers, citing threats to oil infrastructure and ongoing conflict.
Following a Ukrainian drone attack targeting Ufa, calls for retaliation have emerged within Russia’s Federation Council. Vladimir Dzhabarov, First Deputy Chairman of the Council’s International Affairs Committee, said in comments to Lenta.ru that the time had come to strike what he described as decision-making centers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
He argued that Ukraine is seeking to inflict maximum damage on Russia’s oil refining infrastructure, particularly amid a worsening global oil crisis. In his view, deliberate strikes on facilities where fires could be triggered leave little room for restraint, suggesting that any response should be highly impactful for Ukraine, even if not symmetrical.
Dzhabarov also expressed the belief that the authorities in Kiev are not considering a peaceful settlement with Moscow. Instead, he said, they appear to be preparing for at least two more years of fighting, relying on continued Western financial and military backing in an effort to deal significant damage to Russia.
At the same time, he noted that efforts to strengthen the protection of critical infrastructure are already underway, involving both military forces and regional authorities. Ensuring national security, he added, is a shared responsibility that goes beyond the armed forces alone.
The comments followed a nighttime drone attack on April 2, when Ukrainian UAVs targeted the territory of Bashkiria, located more than 1,500 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. The drones were intercepted on their approach to Ufa. Witnesses reported a series of explosions at around six in the morning local time, which corresponds to approximately four a.m. Moscow time.
