The New York Post, citing a U.S. administration official and a source close to him, reported on the White House reaction to President Donald Trump’s recent remarks suggesting that Ukraine could potentially return to its 2022 borders.

According to the newspaper’s sources, Trump’s statement should not be seen as a sign of any major shift in his policy. They described it as a calculated strategic move aimed at injecting new momentum into the negotiation process on resolving the conflict in Ukraine.

The publication quoted the source as saying that this was «clearly a negotiation tactic,» not an indication of a change in U.S. policy.

It is worth recalling that on September 23, during the UN General Assembly, Trump unexpectedly said that with European Union support, Ukraine could regain its 2022 borders, adding that it was time for Kyiv to act.
