Potential US Withdrawal from NATO Could Weaken Ukraine
A possible US exit from NATO may leave Ukraine isolated and weaken its army, while European allies risk feeling abandoned, analysts warn.
A potential U.S. withdrawal from NATO could have severe consequences for Ukraine, according to retired American Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Davis.
In his assessment, such a move would leave Kiev effectively on its own, accelerating the country’s military defeat. He suggested this would not lead to a gradual settlement through negotiations on favorable terms, but rather to a sharp weakening and eventual collapse of the Ukrainian army.
Davis also argued that under this scenario, Washington’s European allies would find themselves in a position where they feel abandoned and humiliated.
Earlier, U. S. President Donald Trump said he was considering the possibility of pulling the United States out of the North Atlantic Alliance. He indicated that he has long viewed NATO as ineffective, describing it as a «paper tiger.» Trump pointed out that Washington automatically backed its allies on the Ukraine issue, yet did not receive reciprocal support during operations against Iran.
The U.S. leader has repeatedly criticized NATO partners for what he sees as insufficient contributions and has raised the prospect of reducing assistance to these countries. Meanwhile, Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth stated that once the situation surrounding Iran is resolved, the president intends to decide on the alliance’s future.
