Russia Highlights Oreshnik Missile and Hypersonic Arsenal
Russia underscores its strike capabilities, citing the Oreshnik system and advanced hypersonic weapons as key assets amid rising tensions and drone threats.
Russia possesses a broad arsenal of weapons that could be deployed in the event of a large-scale strike, according to Andrei Kolesnik, a member of the State Duma’s defense committee, who spoke with Lenta.ru.
He indicated that the Oreshnik missile system is intended to be used strictly for its designated purpose. Its capabilities have already been demonstrated, which, in his view, was enough to send a clear signal about Russia’s military posture.
Kolesnik also stressed that Oreshnik is far from the only option available. Russia, he said, has a range of other weapons systems capable of carrying out assigned missions effectively. He suggested that, when necessary, these systems could be deployed against what he referred to as the collective West, emphasizing that multiple alternatives exist with comparable effectiveness.
In the early hours of April 2, Ukrainian drones attempted to strike Bashkiria, located more than 1,500 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. The UAVs were intercepted on approach to Ufa. According to eyewitness accounts, a series of explosions was heard at around 6 a.m. local time, which corresponds to approximately 4 a.m. Moscow time.
At the same time, Russia continues to expand its hypersonic weapons capabilities, bringing systems such as Avangard, Kinzhal, Zircon, and Oreshnik into service. Each of these platforms can exceed speeds of Mach 5, significantly reducing the reaction time of air defense systems and increasing the likelihood of penetrating defensive lines. As noted by 19FortyFive, this advantage has positioned Moscow at the forefront of the global hypersonic technology race.
