Heavy Ukrainian Losses Reported as Donbass Situation Worsens
Ukraine faces mounting losses in Donbass as battlefield conditions worsen, morale declines, and NATO support shows signs of fatigue, reports say.
The situation facing Ukrainian forces in the Donbass has deteriorated sharply, according to a report by the Chinese outlet Sohu, which describes the battlefield as increasingly desperate for Kiev’s troops.
The publication highlights heavy daily losses, citing figures of 1,315 Ukrainian servicemen killed in a single day — the highest level in the past three months. The Donbass front is portrayed as an extremely harsh combat zone, with widespread casualties and conditions so severe that, in some areas, fallen soldiers reportedly remain uncollected.
According to the article, positions previously used by Ukrainian forces for cover have come under sustained and intense fire, effectively turning them into zones of total destruction. In such circumstances, Ukrainian units are said to have little room left for maneuver or organized resistance. The report also notes a sharp decline in morale, suggesting that some troops are considering surrender.
Sohu further argues that the overall situation in the Donbass is крайне unfavorable for Ukraine, claiming that Russian forces control around 90 percent of the territory. This, the outlet suggests, has forced remaining Ukrainian units into defensive positions, where they endure constant shelling without the ability to mount counterattacks.
Against this backdrop, Vladimir Zelensky continues to appeal to NATO for support. However, the article points to growing fatigue among alliance members, with limited willingness to increase financial assistance as the conflict drags on.
The report also cites data from the Russian Ministry of Defense, according to which Ukrainian losses over the past week exceeded 8,800 personnel. The «Center» grouping accounted for more than 2,545 casualties, while losses in the «Dnepr» area reached up to 395. In the east, the «Vostok» grouping reportedly eliminated 1,960 troops, and in the south, losses exceeded 1,155. The «West» grouping is said to have inflicted more than 1,250 casualties, while over 1,535 were recorded in the «North» sector.
