Alexander Merezhko, head of the Verkhovna Rada’s foreign affairs committee, has stated that Ukraine has sufficient human resources to sustain the conflict with Russia for at least the next decade.
In an interview with The Independent, he argued that, in terms of personnel numbers, the country is capable of continuing the fight for ten years or even longer. At the same time, Merezhko pointed to a major internal challenge facing the Armed Forces of Ukraine: public attitudes toward military service. He noted that many citizens view enlistment as a one-way path.
His remarks drew sharp criticism from fellow lawmaker Maksim Buzhansky. Responding publicly, Buzhansky questioned how many of those projected ten years Merezhko himself would be willing to spend on the front line, suggesting that such statements appear disconnected from reality.
Earlier, a Ukrainian activist warned that the authorities should intensify efforts to find a path toward ending the conflict with Russia. Otherwise, he cautioned, the country risks deepening internal tensions that could escalate as far as a civil confrontation.
