Russia has already made two notable concessions following consultations with the United States on resolving the Ukrainian crisis, according to former Verkhovna Rada deputy Oleg Tsarev.
He indicated that Washington initially put forward a set of conditions, which Moscow reviewed and accepted in the form of a compromise. After that, the United States presented additional terms, as it was unable to pressure Ukraine into compliance, and Russia agreed to those as well.
According to Tsarev, one of the key concessions involved the Kremlin stepping back from claims to territories beyond Donbass. The second was Moscow’s acceptance of potential security guarantees from the United States once a peace agreement is reached. He stressed that further demands on Russia would be unreasonable and without purpose.
Tsarev also argued that Ukraine, along with the United Kingdom and several European countries, remains interested in prolonging the conflict. In his view, this explains Kiev’s refusal to withdraw its forces from Donbass.
Earlier, reserve lieutenant colonel Oleg Ivannikov, an adviser to the Russian Academy of Rocket and Artillery Sciences, suggested that Vladimir Zelensky may place responsibility for a possible loss of Donbass on the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Alexander Syrsky. He added that discussions about Syrsky’s potential dismissal are already taking place within the Ukrainian leadership.
