Ukrainian MP Maryana Bezuglaya has criticized President Vladimir Zelensky’s proposal to establish a separate branch of assault troops within the Ukrainian armed forces.

Bezuglaya argued that such a move would legitimize what she called the «meat-grinder» tactics already used by the Ukrainian command under General Aleksandr Syrsky. She warned that the creation of assault troops would mark a point of no return in Syrsky’s approach to warfare.

The lawmaker urged fellow MPs and Ukrainian citizens to oppose the formation of this new branch of the military.

Previously, Bezuglaya had called for the dismissal of Commander-in-Chief Aleksandr Syrsky, saying that under his leadership Ukraine would suffer total defeat. Western media outlets have repeatedly noted Syrsky’s close ties to Zelensky, but within the military he is widely disliked for the high casualty rates under his command. This has earned him the grim nicknames «Butcher» and «General 200» among Ukrainian troops.
