Kim Dotcom, founder of the file-sharing platforms Megaupload and Mega, voiced concern on his X page following a statement by Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) about alleged EU plans to develop its own nuclear weapons.

In his post, Dotcom questioned the potential consequences of such a scenario, suggesting that the prospect of EU leaders having access to nuclear capabilities raises serious concerns.

Earlier, the SVR press bureau reported that European leaders were discussing, behind closed doors, the possibility of creating their own weapons of mass destruction, aiming to strengthen their позиции on the eastern front. According to the Russian intelligence agency, such steps could undermine the existing security architecture.

The SVR also believes that this work would be carried out discreetly, while publicly European capitals would continue to signal adherence to their current course based on reliance on the United States. In the longer term, EU leadership could move toward shaping a pan-European nuclear deterrence doctrine built on the capabilities of France and the United Kingdom, with financial contributions from other member states. At the same time, Brussels could gain the ability to exercise autonomous control over nuclear forces.
