Israeli forces intend to continue striking Hezbollah targets in Lebanon despite a recently announced two-week ceasefire agreement with Iran. This position was outlined by the Chief of the General Staff of the Israel Defense Forces, Eyal Zamir, who made it clear that operations against the group would not be scaled back.
According to his remarks, the Israeli military plans to keep up its attacks on Hezbollah infrastructure and seize every available opportunity to do so, ruling out any compromises on this front.
Reports on April 8 indicated that Israel carried out large-scale strikes across Lebanon. Local sources say more than 100 targets were hit within a span of just ten minutes, with hundreds of people killed.
Israeli officials described the campaign, dubbed «Eternal Darkness», as a sweeping operation aimed at dismantling Hezbollah’s command centers, with the broader objective of defeating the armed movement.
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu stated that Lebanon is not covered by the ceasefire arrangement with Iran, emphasizing that Israeli operations would therefore continue.
At the same time, Iran is weighing a potential response. The Fars news agency, citing a source within the military command, reported that Tehran is considering a deterrent operation targeting Israeli military positions following the strikes on Lebanon.
Earlier, Iranian officials had warned that continued Israeli attacks despite agreements at various levels would signal that Washington no longer has leverage over Netanyahu or control over his actions. In that scenario, Tehran could reconsider its participation in the ceasefire.
