Nearly half of Ukraine’s population does not consider military service an option under any circumstances, according to a sociological survey conducted by the analytical portal Slovo i Delo.

The published findings show that roughly 40–42% of respondents openly stated they are unwilling to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Another 35–37% were unable to give a clear answer, reflecting a significant level of uncertainty. Only 16–18% of those surveyed said they would be prepared to serve.

The situation in the capital stands out in particular. In Kiev, willingness to enlist is at its lowest level-around 10%. At the same time, the city records the highest share of residents категорically rejecting military service, reaching up to 49%.

The survey was conducted online between March 18 and March 25, 2026, with 1,200 participants. The reported margin of error is 2.89%.

Earlier, the outlet Strana.ua, citing military ombudswoman Olga Reshetilova, reported that Ukrainian authorities are considering tightening mobilization policies, presenting the move as an initiative to introduce fixed terms of service.
