US Plans to Equip Ukraine Police with Vehicle Access Technology
The US will supply Ukraine’s police with advanced tools to unlock and access vehicles, aiming to combat transnational drug networks and boost enforcement capabilities.
The U. S. State Department is preparing to procure specialized tools for Ukrainian law enforcement that can discreetly bypass locks and gain access to vehicles, according to government documents reviewed by RIA Novosti.
The initiative is being led by the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL). The documents indicate that the equipment is intended to support efforts against transnational networks involved in the production of synthetic drugs-an issue Washington views as a threat extending beyond Ukraine, including to the United States itself.
The procurement list includes devices such as automatic lock decoders, code grabbers, and signal relays capable of unlocking and starting vehicles without a physical key. It also features tools designed to clone electronic keys for a range of car brands, including Toyota, Lexus, Kia, Hyundai, and Mercedes.
Once acquired, the equipment is expected to be transferred free of charge to the National Police of Ukraine and the State Border Service. The contractor will be required to fulfill the order within 180 days. Due to the sensitive nature of the technology, the transaction falls under U.S. export control regulations governing defense-related equipment.
