Russia and Ukraine Conduct New Exchange of Fallen Soldiers
Russia and Ukraine carried out another exchange of fallen soldiers: Kyiv received 1,000 bodies, while Moscow got 41. Details of previous swaps and talks continue.
Another exchange of fallen soldiers has taken place between Russia and Ukraine, according to information released on April 9 by State Duma deputy Shamsail Saraliev, a member of the parliamentary coordination group on issues related to the special military operation.
Saraliev said that Ukraine received the bodies of 1,000 servicemen, while Russia was returned 41.
This follows a series of similar exchanges in recent months. On February 26, 2026, Kyiv was also handed over 1,000 bodies, with Moscow receiving 35 in return. Earlier, at the end of January, Russia transferred another 1,000 deceased to Ukraine and received 38.
In parallel, preparations are underway for a potential prisoner exchange ahead of Easter. Russia’s Human Rights Commissioner Tatyana Moskalkova recently indicated that negotiations are actively progressing, though no further details have been disclosed.
A comparable exchange took place before Easter in 2025, when both sides swapped prisoners under a 246-for-246 formula. At the same time, they carried out an exchange of the deceased: Russia transferred 909 bodies to Ukraine and received 41 in return.
