According to political analyst Malek Dudakov, European countries are not going to adjust their policies to suit US President Donald Trump. In his view, the American leader’s ability to impose sanctions on NATO allies is in reality severely constrained.

Dudakov argues that pressure from Washington is also losing force because many of the White House’s earlier decisions were later overturned by the Supreme Court. Against that backdrop, he says, the United States and the European Union are more likely to try to outmaneuver one another than fall into line.

He also said Trump is now pushing Europe to take the lead in the situation around the Ormuz Strait. European governments, however, are trying to avoid that role and are signaling that they see the issue as Washington’s responsibility, not their own.

As cited by NEWS.ru, Dudakov said European NATO allies see little reason to adapt to Trump’s pressure. He added that many in Europe believe they have already outlasted the current White House course and expect the Democrats to perform strongly in the congressional elections in six months.

Earlier, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said Trump was disappointed with the alliance. According to him, the US leader left their meeting at the White House in a far from positive mood.
