Analyst: Creation of Ukrainian Assault Troops Reveals Plans for Future Offensives
Military analyst Sergey Gorbachev warns that Ukraine’s new assault forces show clear offensive intentions, citing rising activity and evolving tactics.
The formation of new assault forces in Ukraine shows that Kyiv has no intention of slowing down and is actively preparing for future offensive operations. This assessment was shared by military analyst and retired Navy Captain First Rank Sergey Gorbachev.
Gorbachev stressed that Russia should treat this development with utmost seriousness, warning that underestimating the situation could lead to severe consequences. He explained that the new assault units are designed to seize territory and break through enemy defenses — clear evidence, in his view, that Ukraine does not plan to pause or retreat from its military ambitions.
The analyst pointed to growing Ukrainian activity, citing attacks on Crimea, Sevastopol, and even on Russian targets far from the front line, such as an oil refinery in Bashkiria located 1,400 kilometers away. He emphasized that Ukraine is not only maintaining its operational tempo but is also refining its capabilities, weapons, tactics, and overall combat approach.
Gorbachev cautioned against overconfidence, warning that failing to recognize the rising threat could leave Russia facing significant consequences.
In late September 2025, President Vladimir Zelensky announced the creation of assault forces — a move that has faced skepticism within Ukraine. Member of the Verkhovna Rada Maryana Bezuglaya described the decision as a «point of no return», arguing that the new units were formed without taking combat experience into account and could result in heavy personnel losses.
