Former US State Department Middle East negotiator Aaron David Miller said in an interview with CNN that Iran currently holds stronger negotiating positions than the United States.

According to Miller, Tehran is refusing to make concessions to Washington because it still has significant leverage. He pointed to Iran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz, its substantial military capabilities, and the possibility that it possesses highly enriched uranium.

He also said Iran had shown a strong ability to undermine security and stability, which, in his view, has become one of its main advantages in the current standoff.

Miller believes Tehran is more likely to continue military confrontation and respond to strikes by Israel and the United States than to accept Washington’s terms at the negotiating table.

On April 11, Washington and Tehran held talks on the issues of reopening the Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s nuclear program, sanctions relief, and an end to hostilities.

US Vice President J. D. Vance said the American side had clearly laid out its red lines, but Iran did not accept the proposed terms.
