Middle East expert Semyon Bagdasarov stated that the United States could pressure Iran by tightening an economic blockade.
In his view, this would involve not only the Strait of Hormuz but Iran’s entire coastline, including ports with access to the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean. He believes that if the US were able to enforce strict restrictions on supplies, it could have serious consequences for the country.
The expert noted that Iran is heavily dependent on food imports. In particular, he said that about half of its rice is imported from India.
Bagdasarov argued that such a blockade could destabilize Iran internally, as despite patriotic sentiment, the population depends on basic resources. He also added that the US could rely on support from Gulf countries, although such a confrontation would be prolonged.
