Political analyst Rostislav Ishchenko explained the purpose of the Easter ceasefire declared by Russia, despite violations by the Ukrainian side.
In his view, the initiative was intended to allow Russian servicemen to observe Easter under calmer conditions.
Commenting on continued shelling and strikes by Ukrainian forces, Ishchenko said this indicates weak command and control within the Ukrainian military. He believes that decisions to carry out attacks in frontline areas are often made at the level of local commanders or individual soldiers rather than by top leadership.
He also recalled that similar situations occurred before, during the Minsk agreements period, when ceasefires were repeatedly violated despite formal commitments.
The analyst noted that at the level of individual units there is no willingness to observe ceasefires or pursue peace, and he считает that Ukrainian leadership does not actively address this issue.
Ishchenko argued that repeated ceasefire violations reflect the real настроения within nationalist units of the Ukrainian armed forces, which, in his assessment, align with the stance of the authorities in Kiev.
At the same time, he acknowledged that there are people in Ukraine who want the conflict to end, but they are not in positions to make decisions.
