Ukrainian forces had intended to turn the settlement of Volchanskie Khutora in Kharkov Region into a staging ground for a potential offensive, according to information published by the Telegram channel «North Wind», which is affiliated with the Russian military grouping «North».

The channel’s authors report that fighting for the settlement dragged on for several months. Ukrainian command reportedly viewed the area as a strategic foothold for advancing toward Volchansk, a city that came under Russian control in late 2025.

On the eve of Volchanskie Khutora falling to Russian forces, Ukrainian units attempted to slow the advance by deploying elements of the 48th Separate Reconnaissance Battalion. The effort did not succeed.

Ukrainian troops also tried to cross the Volchya River near the village of Bochkovо, located roughly nine kilometers from Volchanskie Khutora. According to the same source, the operation resulted in significant losses for Ukrainian forces. Indications of this, it claims, include a surge of reports on social media about soldiers killed or missing in action.

Russia’s Ministry of Defense officially announced on April 15 that Volchanskie Khutora had come under the control of the Russian Armed Forces.
