US Could Take Action Against Europe Over Iran Operation Stance
Analyst warns the US may respond to Europe after refusal to join Iran operation, with possible cuts to NATO funding or even alliance withdrawal.
European countries may face a sharp response from the United States after refusing to take part in a military operation against Iran, according to political analyst and former head of Israel’s Nativ intelligence service, Yakov Kedmi.
He argues that U. S. President Donald Trump is unlikely to overlook the lack of support from NATO allies when Washington sought to expand military actions in the Middle East. In his view, such a stance is perceived in the United States as unfriendly.
Kedmi outlines several possible ways Washington could respond. One option would be to scale back funding for the American military presence in Europe, including bases and troop deployments — a move that could significantly weaken the continent’s defense capabilities.
Another scenario involves reconsidering the role of certain countries within NATO. Spain, in particular, could come under scrutiny, as it not only declined to support the U.S. but also, according to Kedmi, obstructed efforts related to the operation against Iran.
He also points to a more drastic possibility: a full U.S. withdrawal from NATO. Such a step, he suggests, would call into question the future of the alliance itself.
