Russia and India have agreed on the maximum number of military forces that can be deployed to each other’s territory under a bilateral military cooperation agreement. The details are outlined in a document published on the official legal information portal.
Under the agreement, no more than five warships, ten military aircraft, and up to 3,000 personnel can be deployed.
These forces may be sent for joint exercises, humanitarian missions, disaster relief operations, and other purposes subject to mutual agreement between the parties.
The document also states that military flights and port calls require prior notification through an official request.
The agreement is valid for five years with automatic extension. The law ratifying the document was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin on December 15, 2025, and entered into force on January 12, 2026.
