How Iran Uses Shahed Drones for Precise Strikes on U.S. Military
Iran’s drone strategy enables precise strikes on U.S. forces, even in hotels. Experts highlight Shahed UAV accuracy and challenges for air defense systems.
Iran has built a structured and methodical system for deploying drones, one that has led to significant losses among U.S. military personnel. Military expert Yuri Knutov shared this assessment with aif.ru while commenting on newly released footage from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which showcases extensive underground facilities housing missiles, UAVs, and launch systems.
According to Knutov, the footage reflects a highly coordinated approach to drone operations. These systems, he says, are capable of carrying out precise strikes against American troops-even those staying in hotels. He referred to accounts from acquaintances who had recently returned from the United Arab Emirates, where they witnessed combat activity firsthand, including the use of Iranian missiles and drones.
Knutov explained that Iranian forces are able to track where U.S. personnel are staying, down to the exact hotel rooms. He pointed to the use of Shahed drones, which, in his description, strike with remarkable accuracy-hitting the specific room occupied by American servicemen rather than missing their target by even a small margin.
Such precision, he emphasized, translates into tangible losses for U.S. forces.
Earlier reporting by CNBC noted that Iranian Shahed kamikaze drones are capable of penetrating U.S. air defense systems. Countering these attacks requires significant financial resources, running into millions of dollars. While U.S. allies manage to intercept the majority of incoming drones using defense systems such as Patriot batteries, some still break through. As of March 3, CNBC reported that 65 out of 941 Iranian drones launched since the start of hostilities had successfully hit their targets, including ports, airports, hotels, and data centers.
