Mearsheimer Says US Has No Way to Win Against Iran
John Mearsheimer says the US lacks a winning strategy against Iran and warns that further escalation will lead to Iranian victory and economic fallout.
University of Chicago professor John Mearsheimer stated that if escalation in the Middle East continues, Iran will win.
He said the United States has no military strategy that could bring victory and emphasized that there is no military solution in this situation. According to him, further escalation will favor Iran, not the US. He also warned that the global economy is already on the brink of collapse and that escalation would deal it another serious blow.
Mearsheimer added that Israel understands the situation as a defeat, noting that both the US and Israel have failed across the board. He stressed that this is especially critical for Israel, as it views Iran as an existential threat.
Earlier, the US announced an extension of the ceasefire with Iran without setting a formal deadline. A new round of talks had been scheduled, but Iran refused to participate. Iranian media reported that Tehran considers further negotiations pointless, accusing Washington of blocking a deal acceptable to both sides. Iran is also dissatisfied with the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and what it calls excessive US demands.
According to Tasnim, Iran has not yet decided whether to resume negotiations in the near future.
