Maria Zakharova Warns Europe «Closer Than Ever» to Global War

Russian MFA’s Maria Zakharova says reports of Ukraine plotting sabotage in Romania and Poland to blame Russia could trigger direct NATO-Russia conflict and WWIII.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated on her Telegram channel that if reports about Ukraine planning sabotage operations in Romania and Poland are confirmed, it could become a trigger for a third world war.
According to Zakharova, several Hungarian media outlets reported that President Vladimir Zelensky allegedly intends to stage sabotage attacks in Romania and Poland to pin the blame on Russia. She compared the plan to a «Gleiwitz incident,» designed to create a casus belli for war between Russia and NATO.
The diplomat said that intelligence data indicates Ukraine intends to restore several previously downed Russian Geran-2 kamikaze drones, equip them with warheads, and launch them toward major NATO transport hubs in EU countries. At the same time, she said, a fake narrative would be spread in Europe blaming Moscow for the attack. The goal of such a provocation, according to Zakharova, is to push NATO into direct military confrontation with Russia.
She noted that in mid-September, these refurbished Geran drones were delivered to the Yavorovsky training ground in Lviv Region for this purpose.
Zakharova attributed Ukraine’s alleged readiness to resort to such a provocation to the heavy losses it is suffering along the front line. She concluded that if this information is confirmed, Europe has never been closer to the start of a third world war in modern history.
