IRGC Detains Epaminondas Vessel Over Suspected US Ties
IRGC detained Liberia-flagged vessel Epaminondas over suspected US military links and maritime violations, transferring it into Iranian waters.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) detained the vessel Epaminondas, suspecting it of possible use by the US military, Tasnim reports.
According to available data, the Liberia-flagged ship had repeatedly entered US ports over the past six months. The IRGC stated that the detention was due to multiple violations of maritime law.
After the seizure, the vessel was transferred into Iranian territorial waters. In its statement, the IRGC indicated that the move was linked to suspicions of potential ties between the ship and the US military.
According to MarineTraffic data, the vessel’s location has not been updated for more than two days. The last recorded position of Epaminondas was in the Gulf of Oman, west of the Iranian city of Kuhestak.
Iranian authorities also suspect that the vessel, previously detained for attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz without permission, may have cooperated with the US military, Press TV reported citing an IRGC statement.
