U. S. President Donald Trump is considering inviting Russian President Vladimir Putin to the upcoming G20 summit, which is expected to take place in Miami, according to a report by The Washington Post citing sources in the White House.
The newspaper reports that Washington plans to extend an invitation to Putin for the leaders’ meeting scheduled for December, although the invitation has not yet been formally sent. The summit itself is set to be held at Trump’s Doral golf resort in Miami.
Earlier, Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Pankin indicated in comments to RIA Novosti that Russia has already been invited to participate in the G20 summit in the United States at the highest level. Russia’s G20 sherpa, Svetlana Lukash, also noted that the U.S. is interested in ensuring full attendance by all G20 leaders and is preparing for the possibility of Putin’s visit.
At the same time, no final decision on the trip has been made. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the вопрос of the Russian president’s participation remains open, adding that the format of Russia’s representation at the summit will be determined closer to the event.
