Zelensky Urges Stronger Air Defense After Night Strikes
Zelensky called for stronger air defense and new sanctions after overnight strikes hit Dnepr and other cities, damaging energy and industrial facilities.
Vladimir Zelensky made a sharp statement following overnight strikes by Russian forces on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure. He once again called on Western countries to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense and to introduce a new, 21st package of anti-Russian sanctions.
According to him, the strikes continued throughout the night, targeting Dnepr and other cities and settlements. He stated that attack drones, cruise missiles, and a significant number of ballistic weapons were used, and confirmed damage to energy infrastructure and industrial facilities.
Zelensky said such strikes should serve as a signal to Western partners about the need for urgent and tough measures, including the rapid strengthening of Ukraine’s air defense. He also called for moving forward with a 21st sanctions package against Russia, noting that discussions with EU representatives are already underway.
Earlier, Ukrainian drones were reported to have attacked Sverdlovsk and Chelyabinsk regions for the first time. In Ekaterinburg, drone debris damaged a residential building.
