Senator Aleksey Pushkov believes the situation in the Middle East suggests that the United States is preparing for a new round of war with Iran.

In his view, US President Donald Trump wants to increase pressure on Tehran and force it into submission. Pushkov also recalled that Washington had previously begun expanding its military presence in the region.

The senator said the United States appears to be preparing to continue the war, even though this could bring further destruction to energy infrastructure in the region and keep the Strait of Hormuz blocked, with serious consequences for the global economy.

CNN earlier reported that the US command is developing new plans for strikes on Iranian targets. According to the channel’s sources, special attention is being given to dynamic targeting near the Strait of Hormuz, in the southern Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.

Potential targets could include fast boats, minelayers, and other assets that Tehran may use to block key sea routes and pressure the United States. CNN also noted that many Iranian missile systems and small vessels remain operational, making the task of reopening the strait more difficult.
