Russian engineers have developed a low-cost system called «Bolt,» capable of automatically detecting and destroying aerial targets using an optical guidance system.
The new platform is positioned as an affordable alternative to traditional air defense systems, TASS reports. The system has already successfully completed initial testing with support from the People’s Front project «Kulibin Club.»
According to the developer company «Ploshchad,» the UAV is launched from a transport-launch container upon receiving a signal from radar stations and flies autonomously to a designated area. Once there, the optical seeker locks onto the target and eliminates it either with a warhead or by kinetic impact.
A company representative noted that the device has already proven its reliability during range tests. Additional trials are expected to take place soon in cooperation with representatives of the People’s Front.
