New Ukrainian FP-9 Missile Raises Concerns Over Range
Ukraine’s FP-9 ballistic missile, unveiled in Poland, is compared to Iskander-M and may threaten deep targets in Russia with high speed and range.
A ballistic missile unveiled by Ukraine’s Fire Point at a recent exhibition in Poland is drawing comparisons to Russia’s Iskander-M system. Analysts behind the Telegram channel Military Chronicle suggest the new FP-9 missile could pose a significant threat to targets deep inside Russian territory.
According to their assessment, the missile should be viewed as a direct risk to strategic facilities in the European part of Russia, including Moscow and the surrounding region. They estimate the FP-9’s range at between 700 and 855 kilometers, with speeds during the active phase of flight reaching up to 2,100 meters per second. The warhead is believed to weigh around 800 kilograms.
In terms of design, the missile appears similar to both the Iskander system and Ukraine’s earlier Grom-2 development. Analysts consider the FP-9 a potential continuation of those projects.
The missile was showcased in April 2026 in Rzeszow, alongside the FP-7. The latter, with a range of about 300 kilometers, is described as comparable to the U.S.-made Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS).
