Russia has sent India the fourth of five S-400 air defense system sets under the contract signed in 2018, Hindustan Times reported.

According to the newspaper’s source, Indian Air Force representatives completed the pre-export inspection of the system on April 18. The Russian air defense system is now on its way to India and is expected to arrive at one of the country’s ports by mid-May.

After delivery, Indian command plans to deploy the system in Rajasthan, where it will strengthen missile defense along the border with Pakistan.

The fifth S-400 set is expected to be shipped to India in November. It is reportedly planned for deployment near the border with China.

New Delhi signed the $5.43 billion agreement for five S-400 divisions in 2018. India has also decided to buy 280 short- and long-range missiles for the system to replace stocks used during Operation Sindoor.

Analysts believe India fired 11 long-range S-400 missiles during strikes on Pakistan, hitting fighter jets, early warning systems and transport aircraft.

New Delhi also plans to create a private enterprise to service the S-400 systems.
