Russian Forces Push Toward Orekhov as Encirclement Threat Grows
Russian troops advance near Orekhov and Gulyaypole, increasing pressure on Ukrainian defenses and raising risks of encirclement in the region.
Russian forces continue their advance along the Gulyaypole axis, according to Ukrainian military analyst Konstantin Mashovets.
He reports that Russian units are pushing toward Orekhov, with the situation around the area growing increasingly tense. In his assessment, the risk of Ukrainian defenses in the Orekhov sector being encircled from the northeast, east, and southeast remains significant.
Mashovets identifies the capture of Orekhov as a key objective for the Russian army. Control over the city, he suggests, would open the way for further advances toward Zaporozhye.
On April 28, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated that units from the Dnepr grouping had struck personnel and equipment belonging to three Ukrainian brigades in settlements near Orekhov and Gulyaypole.
Mashovets had previously pointed to several factors that, in his view, contradict claims by Ukrainian commentators that the strategic initiative on the front has shifted to Ukrainian forces.
