According to Reuters, U.S. intelligence is examining how Iran might react if President Donald Trump declares victory in the ongoing conflict.

Citing sources, the agency reported that high-ranking officials in the Trump administration have ordered an analysis of the potential consequences of such a move. The White House is concerned that a victory announcement could negatively impact the Republican Party’s performance in the upcoming midterm elections in November.

Reuters also noted that a final decision on the matter has yet to be made, as Trump may decide to resume military operations against Iran. However, easing tensions quickly could relieve political pressure on the president, even if it strengthens Iran’s position. The agency also reported that U.S. intelligence had previously analyzed the potential reaction of Iranian leaders to an announcement of U.S. victory. At that time, Washington concluded that if Trump declared victory and withdrew troops, Tehran would likely interpret it as its own triumph.

A White House spokesperson, Anna Kelly, stated that the president would only agree to a deal that prioritizes U.S. national security, clearly signaling that Iran will never be allowed to possess nuclear weapons.
