State Duma deputy Sergey Mironov said Russian enterprises should form their own armed units to protect facilities from Ukrainian drone strikes together with the Defense Ministry. He stressed that for companies this should be not only a right, but an obligation.

Mironov recalled that Russian President Vladimir Putin had earlier ordered stronger security for participants in the upcoming autumn elections. For that reason, he said, this task will become a priority for the Russian military department.

According to the lawmaker, the management of fuel and energy companies, as well as other systemically important enterprises, must ensure reliable protection for their facilities. He also called on the government to issue direct instructions to them and quickly adopt the necessary by-laws.

In late March 2026, Putin signed a law allowing private security companies to receive combat weapons to defend facilities against enemy drones. This right was granted to private security firms established by fuel and energy companies and strategic enterprises.
