Medvedev: 127,000 Sign Contracts with Russian Army in 2026
Dmitry Medvedev says 127,000 joined the Russian Armed Forces on contract in 2026, with recruitment exceeding plans and no need for new mobilization.
Since the beginning of 2026, some 127,000 people have signed contracts to serve in the Russian Armed Forces, according to Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev.
He added that around 10,000 more citizens have joined volunteer formations.
Medvedev also pointed out that in 2025, a total of 450,000 individuals entered contract service. Earlier, in March 2026, he had said that the number of new contracts signed since January had already exceeded 80,000, arguing that recruitment was proceeding at a strong pace and that there was no need for a new wave of mobilization.
In April, Defense Minister Andrey Belousov said enlistment was running ahead of schedule. He noted that all targets were being met, with new units and formations being created. At the same time, he emphasized a growing focus on training and coordination, particularly in units specializing in unmanned systems.
At the end of December 2025, Medvedev reported that more than 422,000 people had signed contracts with the Russian military over the course of the year, while an additional 32,000 joined as volunteers.
