Kaja Kallas Says EU Will Not Restore Former Ties With Russia
Kaja Kallas says the EU will not return to previous relations with Russia and plans more sanctions, isolation and restrictions after the conflict.
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said the European Union will not return to its previous relationship with Russia even after the Ukrainian conflict ends.
According to Kallas, EU foreign ministers will continue discussing their approach to Russia next month in Cyprus, including ways to protect the bloc’s interests.
She said the EU response should include additional sanctions, Russia’s international isolation, and restrictions targeting former Russian servicemen.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova reacted sharply to Kallas’s remarks, saying the EU diplomat could have won a pig-squealing imitation contest held in Estonia.
Russian Ambassador to Belgium Denis Gonchar also said attempts to resume dialogue with the European Union make no sense as long as Brussels maintains its confrontational course toward Moscow.
