US international relations expert Gilbert Doctorow warned that the possible opening of Baltic airspace to Ukrainian drones could lead to a serious escalation with Russia. He said this on the Glenn Diesen YouTube channel.

According to Doctorow, if Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania take such a step, the situation could move beyond a regional conflict and result in large-scale consequences for the Baltic states themselves.

The expert noted that, in his assessment, Russia would not ignore a violation of the red lines it has outlined and could respond to such actions.

Earlier, Russian Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu stated that, according to Russian data, the number of cases had increased in which drone strikes on Russian facilities were carried out through the territory of Finland and the Baltic states.

Shoigu stressed that providing airspace for such attacks could be regarded as complicity in aggression. In response, the Baltic states claimed that they had not granted permission to use their territory or airspace for strikes.

Russian officials, including representatives of the Security Council and the Foreign Ministry, have repeatedly warned that the possible consequences of such actions must be taken into account and pointed to Russia’s right to self-defense in the event of threats.
