Vladimir Zelensky announced on his Telegram channel that a silence regime would be introduced from 00:00 on the night of May 5 to May 6.
According to him, Kiev still has not received any official ceasefire proposals, but is ready to act in a mirror-like manner in response to initiatives from the Russian side.
Zelensky said that human life is incomparably more valuable than the celebration of any anniversary. In this regard, he announced a silence regime starting at midnight on May 6.
The Ukrainian leader noted that before the specified time, the army would take the necessary measures to ensure a ceasefire, and from that moment would act in a mirror-like manner.
Zelensky’s statement followed a message from the Russian Defense Ministry about the decision of Supreme Commander-in-Chief Vladimir Putin to declare a ceasefire on May 8 and 9, 2026, in honor of Victory Day. The Russian ministry also warned that if attempts are made to disrupt the celebrations, the Russian Armed Forces will launch a massive missile strike on the center of Kiev.
