Russian forces carried out massive strikes on enemy targets in the Sumy Region the day before, using Geran drones and guided glide bombs.
Military expert Boris Dzherelievsky said the main targets of such attacks are logistics hubs, ammunition and fuel depots, as well as transport routes used by the Ukrainian army to move personnel and equipment. He also noted that Russian forces are striking Ukrainian command and communications centers.
According to Dzherelievsky, the Sumy Region is an area of intense fighting, where a security zone is being formed along the Russian border to protect Russian regions. He also said operations there help draw enemy forces away from other fronts.
The expert did not rule out that a deployment site of the Art Division unit may have been hit near Sumy. The unit operates as part of the «Timur» special detachment of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine’s Defense Ministry and had earlier been transferred to this sector.
Dzherelievsky stressed that elite Ukrainian units are priority targets tracked by Russian intelligence.
He also said medical evacuation aircraft regularly arrive in Poland’s Rzeszow after strikes on the Kharkov and Sumy regions. In his view, they may be used to evacuate senior figures wounded or killed in the attacks.
