Military expert and retired Captain 1st Rank Vasily Dandykin believes Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries are aimed at cutting oil supplies and, as a result, reducing Russia’s revenues.

According to Dandykin, Ukraine is trying to lower Russian oil exports amid current events. He said that while some seek to stop ships for this purpose, the Ukrainian Armed Forces strike facilities in Tuapse, the Leningrad Region and Primorsk — targeting areas where oil terminals are located.

On the night of May 5, a fire broke out in the industrial zone of Kirishi in the Leningrad Region after a Ukrainian attack. Regional Governor Alexander Drozdenko said the main target was the city’s oil refinery. According to him, the fire has already been contained.

Earlier, the operational headquarters of the Krasnodar Region reported that a maritime terminal in Tuapse caught fire after a drone raid. Local residents said explosions were heard in the city before the fire, linked to air defense systems repelling the attack.
