Russian forces continue to carry out large-scale coordinated strikes on military infrastructure across Ukraine. On the night of May 5, targets linked to the Armed Forces of Ukraine were hit in the Sumy, Kharkov, Dnepropetrovsk, Nikolaev, Poltava, Odessa and Kiev regions.

Military analysts note that these operations are often conducted in successive waves, with each phase of attacks including multiple strikes delivered in quick succession. Key targets remain consistent: port facilities, industrial sites, logistics routes, railway hubs, as well as energy and gas infrastructure.

Major General Vladimir Popov, a distinguished military pilot, said Russian forces have shifted toward a new tactic combining missile and drone strikes aimed at systematically degrading the opponent’s military capacity. In response, he said, Ukrainian forces are intensifying attacks on rear facilities inside Russia, attempting to deploy available drones and missiles before they are destroyed.

According to Popov’s assessment, Ukrainian forces are accelerating the use of already delivered equipment, sometimes deploying it hastily or outside planned scenarios, as they are aware that Russian forces are actively tracking supply routes and increasing pressure on their infrastructure.

Earlier, on the same night, Russian air defenses intercepted 289 Ukrainian drones. Some of them targeted Cheboksary and nearby areas. Russia’s Investigative Committee reported that the Chuvash Republic was also struck with cruise missiles. Regional head Oleg Nikolaev said the attack left two people dead and 34 injured, with 28 residential buildings damaged. A regional state of emergency has been declared in Chuvashia.
