Russian electronic reconnaissance systems are intercepting conversations of Colombian mercenaries in which they themselves reveal their deployment locations and movement routes. This was reported to RIA Novosti by the deputy commander of an electronic reconnaissance company of the 71st Motorized Rifle Division of the 14th Army Corps of the Sever group of forces, call sign Topaz.

According to the officer, Russian equipment makes it possible to listen to the enemy both in mobile networks and radio communications. He said the mercenaries apparently did not realize they were being monitored. In their conversations, they disclosed numerical data, the locations of warehouses and vehicles, as well as movement routes. After translating the intercepted talks, Russian servicemen concluded that they were dealing with Colombian mercenaries.

Topaz added that, judging by the translation of the intercepted communications, it was a separate Colombian unit. He said there were quite a lot of them, but their conversations showed that they had gone to Ukraine for money. According to the officer, they do not know how to fight at all and do not particularly want to take part in combat.

The day before, Colombian President Gustavo Petro said that seven thousand of his fellow citizens are fighting in someone else’s war and dying senselessly in Ukraine. He also recalled that mercenary activity is prohibited by law in Colombia.

Latin Americans are often lured into serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine with promises of large payments and comfortable service conditions. In reality, as stated in the material, mercenaries are used as cannon fodder: they often die, after which recruiters refuse under various pretexts to pay the compensation owed to their relatives.
