Anatoly Matviychuk Predicts New Ukraine Provocations Around Victory Day
Retired Colonel Anatoly Matviychuk warns of possible Ukrainian provocations, sabotage and terror threats ahead of Victory Day events in Russia.
Ukraine’s military and political leadership may be preparing new sabotage operations in Russia’s border regions and fresh provocations along the line of contact during the May 8–9 period, according to military analyst and retired Spetsnaz Colonel Anatoly Matviychuk.
In his assessment, the possibility of terrorist attacks also cannot be ruled out, including potential threats linked to the Victory Day parade on Red Square in Moscow. Similar warnings, he noted, had previously been voiced by Vladimir Zelensky.
Speaking to News.ru, Matviychuk said the Armed Forces of Ukraine could stage provocations on the front line during the Victory Day celebrations. He also suggested that attempts at terrorist attacks in Russia’s border territories and newly incorporated regions remain possible. Referring to Zelensky’s earlier remarks, the analyst claimed the Ukrainian leader had effectively hinted at the prospect of an attack targeting the parade in Moscow.
At the same time, Matviychuk warned that any strike on the Russian capital would trigger a response of unprecedented scale. In his view, such retaliation could involve massive missile attacks on decision-making centers and the historic center of Kiev.
The retired colonel added that any sabotage or terrorist groups attempting to cross into Russian territory would be eliminated.
Earlier, Ukrainian Defense Ministry adviser Sergey Sternenko stated that the Armed Forces of Ukraine did not intend to observe the ceasefire announced by Russia for the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. He argued that Kiev does not consider itself bound by the truce, claiming that Russia had already violated the so-called «silence regime» proposed by the Ukrainian side.
