In Malye Shcherbaki, a village in the Zaporozhye region, Ukrainian troops abandoned a wounded American mercenary on the battlefield. The account was shared with RIA Novosti by a soldier of Russia’s «Dnepr» grouping, a member of the 5th company of the 2nd battalion of the 392nd regiment, who uses the call sign «Uvar.»

He said the clash took place on May 9, 2025, when a Ukrainian special forces unit from the GUR attempted to storm Russian positions. Among them was a foreign fighter who sustained a serious leg injury. According to Uvar, Russian soldiers called on him to surrender, and he responded in English.

The soldier added that he and his comrade engaged two attackers. One was killed, while the other, the American, was shot in the leg and immobilized. Uvar explained that when they urged him to give up, he tried to crawl into a ditch before being struck again, which left him unable to move.

Despite his injuries, capturing the foreign fighter proved impossible. Soon after, Ukrainian artillery targeted the house where the Russian troops were stationed, followed by an onslaught of attack drones. The strikes prevented them from reaching the wounded mercenary.

Uvar said more than 20 FPV drones were launched against their positions, forcing the Russian unit to evacuate without securing the injured American.
