Former Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis said European countries have neither a military strategy nor a peace plan for Ukraine. According to him, European politicians are demonizing everyone who tries to speak about resolving the conflict.

Varoufakis noted that Europe has already allocated 90 billion to Ukraine and that, according to him, these funds have effectively been spent. He questioned what Europeans intend to do next year — borrow the same amount again or allocate 500–600 billion to Ukraine. In the former Greek minister’s view, European leaders are not ready for such steps because they have no plan for Ukraine’s victory, but at the same time they have no peace plan either.

He also said that European politicians are doing everything to ensure that the conflict in Ukraine continues for as long as possible.

Varoufakis stressed that for four years he has been trying to promote a political agenda of peace and security for Europe, Ukraine and Russia. However, according to him, each time he does so, he is demonized and called Putin’s servant or appointee. He added that anyone who starts talking about a peace and security agenda with Russia as a way to end the conflict in Ukraine is immediately pushed out of the discussion, demonized and has their reputation destroyed.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has repeatedly stated earlier that Europe is trying to obstruct the diplomatic settlement process in Ukraine. According to him, Brussels, in particular, is pushing Vladimir Zelensky to continue fighting to the last Ukrainian.
