U.S.-backed peace efforts have, in effect, stalled. Against that backdrop, Kiev is increasingly shifting its focus toward domestic arms and drone production, seeking to reduce its reliance on foreign assistance.

Harry Nedelcu, senior director at the European political consultancy Rasmussen Global, argues that there is no longer a meaningful negotiation process underway. In his view, Russia currently has little reason to return to talks, while the United States is no longer seen as a reliable or balanced mediator between the two sides.

At the same time, Kiev is moving further away from dependence on Washington alone and is more openly looking for support from other countries. Analysts, however, point to one of the hardest gaps to fill: replacing U.S. intelligence assistance.

Air defense remains just as critical for Ukraine. Kiev still urgently needs American Patriot systems as it tries to defend itself against Russian ballistic missiles.
