According to Russian motorized rifle platoon commander Senior Lieutenant Alexander Frolov, it is impossible to prepare for an assault in a way that guarantees everything will go perfectly. Combat, he said, unfolds quickly and unpredictably, so fighters have to be ready for any scenario.

Frolov noted that before every advance, even a small-scale one, assault groups carefully work through their routes and coordination between units. In some cases, soldiers repeatedly rehearse their tasks at training grounds in advance.

He said the preparation includes checking maps and reconnaissance drone footage in detail, down to the smallest elements.

Frolov also said assault troops do not need special psychological preparation, as Russian soldiers are already focused on carrying out combat missions. He added that he personally supports himself with the thought that «God is with us».

Between combat assignments, the commander said, servicemen discuss upcoming operations and analyze completed missions in order to take experience into account and improve their effectiveness.
