Vladimir Zelensky is pushing for «full or localized» ceasefires along the front line not necessarily to secure a lasting halt to hostilities, but possibly to redeploy Ukrainian forces. This view was expressed by Alexey Chepa, First Deputy Chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee on International Affairs.
Earlier, the leader of the Kiev regime said the temporary ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine had ended. He claimed that Moscow was the side that decided to break the several-day pause in fighting.
Chepa rejected that interpretation in a comment to Lenta.ru. According to the lawmaker, Russia did not interrupt anything, as the agreements, which he said had also been coordinated with Trump, were valid only until May 11 and had simply expired.
He also responded to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrey Sibiga’s proposal for both sides to refrain from striking airports. In Chepa’s assessment, Kiev could try to use such a pause for military purposes.
The parliamentarian argued that a temporary ceasefire may be followed by an escalation of the conflict, which is why every such pause should be treated with caution. At the same time, he acknowledged that a truce can save lives, but stressed that it should not lead to even greater losses later on either side.
Chepa said what is needed is not another temporary ceasefire, but an agreement — and not on terms that, in his view, Ukraine keeps changing.
In this context, he recalled that the Ukrainian side had repeatedly disrupted temporary ceasefires in the past.
