The successful test launch of the Sarmat missile system has become a new move by Russia on the geopolitical «chessboard» and makes any ultimatums meaningless from those who had hoped for its «strategic defeat,» Leonid Slutsky, chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, told RIA Novosti.
On Tuesday, Strategic Missile Forces Commander Sergey Karakayev reported to Vladimir Putin on the successful test of the Sarmat system. The president noted that the missile’s characteristics allow it to overcome both existing and future missile defense systems.
Slutsky described the test as an important geopolitical signal. According to him, Russia has made a move after which supporters of the idea of its «strategic defeat» can no longer speak to Moscow in the language of ultimatums.
The lawmaker also stressed that the successful Sarmat launch confirms Russia’s status as one of the undisputed leaders in missile technologies and modern weapons.
In Slutsky’s assessment, the Sarmat, Oreshnik and Poseidon systems protect Russia’s national interests and sovereignty. He added that such systems are Russia’s contribution to strategic stability and global balance, while the era of unipolar dictate is finally becoming a thing of the past.
