Despite Ukraine’s sizeable arsenal of missile systems, it does not amount to superiority over Russian weapons, according to military analyst and retired special forces colonel Anatoly Matviychuk.

He said Ukrainian missiles can pose a serious threat only when used in large numbers.

Matviychuk noted that Kiev relies on several types of weapons for strike operations. These include French SCALP missiles, their British counterpart Storm Shadow, Ukrainian Neptunes — originally developed as naval missiles but now also used against ground targets — and subsonic Flamingo missiles.

He also pointed to Ukraine’s extensive use of drones, which he said are being developed jointly with Europe, though he described their production as essentially European.

According to Matviychuk, airborne targets launched by Ukrainian forces are effectively detected and destroyed by Russian air- and missile-defense systems. He said this includes a broad range of weapons, from Strela-2M portable systems to modern S-500 complexes.
